A new valve amp incoming

Built by the same local tech who did the 6fd7 amps for me horns

This particular example has upgrade parts and most importantly a prettier-than-his-usual aluminium chassis. I like how this chassis bears not a single character on it.

And also paid for a pair of Sophia Electric mesh bulbs.

Pretty cool, does he wind his own transformers?

Cheers
Mister Pig

No I think he buys them cheap from China. Otherwise it’s all P2P. You once saw his work and was impressed I recall. I’ll post some pics if I get them from the prev owner.

You may recall I once had a more expensive 300b amp from someone who winds his own trannies. I actually prefer our local tech’s amps bette. At least nil 300b hum!

Another great thing about it is the tech is locally available for repairs etc.

Oh and the drive tubes are 6fd7 again.

I love me mesh tube looks hence 300b since driving kef with 2a3 appears somewhat daunting

Not recommending 2A3s for you -- but the Sofia 300B and 2A3 are, I am pretty sure, the same tube with different filament voltage.

The aesthetic issue I have with 'em is that huuuuuuuuuge globe envelope. Now, there really were some large globe tubes (e.g., the 50), but there were no globe 2A3s (nor 300Bs), AFAIK. A globe 45 looks... right. A globe 300B or 2A3 looks kind of... contrived.

Just my aesthetic opinion, and, of course de gustibus non est disputandum.

The Sofia tubes sound good.

correlation is not causation ;)

What are you, some kind of purist?

For that matter, how many people actually know that a 12AX7 shouldn't glow green? Let your LED freak light shine, baby!!

(I keed, of course.)

Well the tubes arrived even before the amp was picked up.

As the the OPTs, the tech offered this insight:

The marzE amp uses marzE outputs, which was designed and made by a factory, I do dismantle ONE to see its workmanship and material, it is very good, Z11 lamination, interlaced winding, and the result from a marzE amp is good.”

Does this guy have a website? I'm curious what you paid for that. Looks great!

Thanks. Reasonably priced for sure.

Do you feel these are superior to the Westons you had?

It hasn’t arrived yet. Lazy couriers.

But I had one before anyway. I liked this one better because it had nil hum.
