78rpm

Post them up! What are you using?

I dabble a bit with 78’s, but don’t currently have a 78 deck. The Thorens 125 can be modified to do 78. Does anyone have any cheap solutions for, perhaps a second, diy, 78 only arm?

I´ve got a Lenco L75 that I use for 78 rpm records playback only. The stock tonearm does a great tracking job. Cartridge is a Stanton 500 with 78 rpm truncated stylus.

I used a Technics SP-15 with an Audio Technica ATP-12T, Stanton 500 with a heavy shell that took extra screw in weights. The SP-15 will be up for sale soon, so I will probably try to mount the ATP-12T on a bolt-on board when I'm in the 78 mood.

I will offer up what I have used, knowing that it's asking for rotten tomatoes to be thrown at me: an audio-technica PL-120 with a Grado 78C cartridge. There are much better solutions. Much.

Nooo! Don't sell it! You'll regret it!

Perhaps, but I only have room for so many tables and the DP-80 is vastly better with LPs - no contest there at all. I still have the Rek-O-Kut B-12H to set up for playing 78s (with the aforementioned ATP-12T on a side board). Apart from 78 duty the SP-15 wouldn't really be serving any purpose in the scheme of things, sadly. I enjoyed it, but the Denon is in a whole different league and it is perhaps time someone else had a chance to enjoy the SP-15.

Well, alright. I'll give my blessings then. ;)
