A new old audiophile manifesto or How I stopped worrying about equipment and learnt to love listening to music again.

Reminds me of my first exposure to Cambodian food; it was a kabob of sorts with beef in a green sauce that had a hairy stringy appearance. I was hesitant to try it to say the least (due to preconceived notions…woof) but when I did; wow!!!
Years later, I find that they were lemongrass beef skewers. I really should give more of their food a go.
What I had didn’t look all that exciting but I’ve never tasted anything like it. And lemongrass beef skewers sounds delicious. I think a favorite local Vietnamese place has something similar.

speaking of food movements...

Eat More Kale is a movement, a t-shirt revolution. OK, that may be an overstatement. I can assure you though, I don't know of any other t-shirt design that leads to more fun or more conversations. I'm proud to design Vermont's One-at-a-time Original Design T-shirts.

They have the print shown above hanging on the wall behind the, umm, toilet in the lavatory at our local feed store:

Oh, and this just in from another thread here @ HFH (with thanks and apologies to @MrEd):

I've always been into gear but first and foremost, I love music. I have a system that is quite adequate for me - not cheap but not ridiculously expensive either. I peruse "DailyAudiophile.com" and glance at the reviews they list from various pubs. And I found SoundStageAccess.com a while back and like their reviews - very "how well does it make music?" style. But I never cared for TAS and dropped Stereophile about 1999.

I stopped "clicking" on TAS, Stereophile, and many other sites like them to not reward them for what they publish. Most of what they review is far outside my price range, and their tribal nature when it comes to what is considered the proper type of equipment and medium for listening to music rubs me the wrong way. They act as gatekeepers to what the proper definition of audiophile is. I love listening to music and I research means of reproducing it to make purchasing decisions of what I can easily afford. I consider myself an audiophile for those reasons.

Seeing this thread revived, I thought maybe the OP might have made an appearance. No such luck, so I leave you all with this: I still have never eaten a corn dog or sushi. BUt Google does still think I am interested in Brussels sprouts recipes.

I don't mind the price of what Stereophile reviews, I just mind the complete lack of personality, honest opinion, and intellect shown. If anybody has the most recent issue, look at the "review" of the Luxman integrated amp. 3/4 of the article is quotes from Luxman press-releases. They aren't reviews, they're what's called "advertorial" ...and honestly it's become so overt that I think you could challenge them in court to have it marked as such.

I should clarify, I don't mind the price of the equipment they review, it just doesn't hold any interest for me. The bit about the tribal nature is my main reason for not rewarding them with clicks.

They had a bit more variety when Art Dudley was around. He was really the only reason I bought it. Last year I saw a deal for a cheap subscription and bit and..... it bites. it's SO BAD. And by bad I mean dull. I have 5 issues sitting in a magazine rack beside me and I can't think of one interesting or useful tidbit I picked up from any of them. Even gear that I'm curious about, like the Luxman integrated... nothing. I might as well just look it up on Luxman's website.

Not to mention that I wrote them a long and sincere letter about the whole thing, without snark or animosity, and ...nothing. Not even a 'thanks for your reply".

Wow. So, I guess I'm not missing anything.

Way back in the late 70s through the 80s I had a subscription to Stereo Review magazine. I always read through it, even reviews of equipment that I had little interest in. And I always liked the album reviews. It was a review of a Yamaha receiver in the magazine that led to my purchasing of my receiver that I still have and use. I remember the author gushing about the variable loudness control, as opposed to a button or switch like the Kenwood integrated that my brother and I shared before he moved out.

Yamaha? Never heard of the brand vis-a-vis hifi. They make outboard motors and motorcycles and glockenspiels and stuff, don't they?

:confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused: :rolleyes::redface: 🤦‍♂️

Well, since Martha was brought in, how's 'bout a little The New Larousse Gastronomique?

You just might love the pureed sprouts.😉
