Well I have been in contact with Henry Ho of H2O Audio, and he has been kind enough to offer me a demo Fire pre amp. These are uber hard to come by, so I emailed back saying Heck ya!

We will see where this goes. But It might be Fire time in Pigtopia. We will see what a few more emails works out. But its a beastie!

Yes its a two box design, with dual 250 VA toroidal transformers in it and 156,000 uf of capacitance.

Hopefully we can swing this whole thing.

When I saw where you went on the amp, my next thought was “and no fire?”

Excited to see what you think of this pairing.

Hmmm... Fire... Water... I am sure the sound will be earthy but with lots of air.

Talk about your basic settings......input and volume. Hoping you can pull this off @Mister Pig. Amazing power and pre combination.

Well I am in waiting mode now. Waiting to find out when it becomes available, and how I pay for it. Fortunately I have the Edge pre amp here, and the system is working well. What I do with it if and when the Fire shows up is an unknown. I don't have the room to run a second system, but will have an F7 I could use with it. The trials and tribulations of being a pig...

Well I am sitting here patiently in Pigtopia, waiting for further information and how to proceed. While I do that I listen to the Edge pre amp, which I fitted with a new Zu Audio Mission power cord. You know what? This pre amp sounds very nice in its own way. The tonal balance appears to be pretty even, the sound is immediate and unvarnished, the presentation of space is huge, and bass is forceful and tight. It really is very good, and I can enjoy music on it. In the off chance the Fire deal goes sideways, well I won't mind listening to this pre at all.

I have to say I miss the preciseness of the Musical Fidelity remote volume control compared to this one, and the Elna selector switch seems to have a bit of movement within each selection position. Its not horrible, but you would think a $4100 pre amp would have a selector that snaps into each position. Still, its not a deal breaker for the money I paid for this pre amp, but it is a minor irritant.

But that sound, its enough to curl a pigs tail in delight.

Well this was a bit of a shock. Here I was waiting around for a response, as I had sent my email off on Wednesday. Well Saturday afternoon I get notification that it has bounced back. I have had emails bounce before, but its never taken 4 days for that to happen. So I wrote Henry a fresh one, but now i sit on pins and needles wondering if this one makes it through. Afraid this is the only contact method I have for H2O Audio also, so I just have to wait it out.

    Sucks.

    Sorry to hear this.

Hopefully it will turn out to be a server issue somewhere and you'll be able to restore contact soon.

Well this week I had an epiphany and sent Henry an email through the Audiogon system, as it might be a different portal to reach him. I gave him my number and asked him to call me. Well Henry did call me this morning, and I had a nice chat with him. Very good guy, and really cares about value in his audio designs, but does not compromise performance. The gist of it is I get Henry's personal pre amp that he uses at a very kind price, so its not been schlepped around the country. And he is going to refresh the capacitors on it and order an upgraded remote for me. So it will be ready in about 3 weeks.

I look forward to this with a high degree of anticipation! I really appreciate the H2O amplifier, and anyone who has heard the Fire pre amp says its something special, and that the pairing of the two pieces is fantastic. So in a months time I should be able to get these two units paired up!
