I've been enjoying making tapes off if tidal immensely, but I always figured that my little Audiogram Dragonfly was not allowing me to maximize the quality of my tapes. So it was time to try something different.

So tonight, I'm sampling the pleasures of a North Star Design Intenso DAC. This Italian made beauty sounds about as beautiful as it looks. And it looks bloody fantastic. Pictures don't do justice to it. To neither the looks nor the sound!

Now I need to figure out how it all works. :)

Didn't want to say much until it warmed up. But after about an hour of running it has started to come into its own. The crystal clarity and details that were there since the first track are still there, but now there is some richness to be heard. Male vocalists are starting to acquire some chest.

More listening to be done...

Glad to see you embarking on the DSD journey. I’ll tell you, digital to me has never been the same since I ventured this direction.

Now, this is still early listening, and I'm still adjusting to the incredible clarity of this beast. I'm hearing things on recordings I've had for years, that I've never heard before. Amazing.

It will be interesting to see if this will end up beguiling or annoying.

You almost make we me want to try out some of these cool toys and systems. Almost.... (time for another LP)....

For some reason, this ad reminded me of this thread and your Route 66 trip.
