Wanted: Diaphragm(s) for Emilar EA/EC 175

Discussion in 'The Emporium (Buy & Sell)' started by jhoyt, Dec 8, 2018 at 11:27 AM.

  1. Hi all, I'm looking for one or two diaphragms that fit the Emilar EA or EC175 compression drivers. Last I knew the Radian 1175 also fits. 16 ohm is what I have now that works, so just a single would need to match it.

ALSO, I would be interested in a pair of "other" compression drivers, if they work.

    Thanks!

I have EA175s but no spare diaphragms.

Looked around and even the Radian 1175 is discontinued and difficult to find.

Might be cheaper and easier to grab a complete driver with a good diaphragm?

  3. Mine is an EA175-16 with a Radian 1175 diaphragm. Yeah, I've looked on ebay at single drivers, and may go that route IF it has the right diaphragm.

If DIY is an option and you have the original diaphragm with broken tags, you may try carefully flowing solder to bridge both ends. I've had success in repairing Altec and Emilar diaphragms this way.

  5. I'm trying to repair the existing open diaphragm. Where the VC lead wraps around the mylar suspension is where it broke. So I'm trying to connect a small wire to the good part of the lead, but the problem I'm running into is getting through the enamel coating.

  6. Well, I thought I had a fix working for the "bad" diaphragm, but it didn't work after all. So I'm super bummed. But I am looking in earnest now for diaphragms, or a pair of compression drivers.

You'll likely end up with a motley collection of both, if my experiences are any example.

Please excuse the dumb question: I wonder if a "diaphragm transplant" is possible? Remove the bad diaphragm from the frame and transplant a good diaphragm onto the frame?
